Saban Wants More Time To Make Bama Decision

January 2nd, 2007 | , , , ,

edgeofyourseat.jpgESPN.com is reporting that Miami coach Nick Saban has asked Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga to give him until Wednesday to announce a decision on whether he’ll stay with the Dolphins or head over to Tuscaloosa.

It was reported earlier that Bama wanted an answer by this afternoon. No word yet on if they’re willing to extend the deadline, although we’re sure they are, especially if they feel confident they’re going to get the answer they way.

Based on this development, we’re altering our earlier prediction.

We now say there’s a 99 percent chance that Nick Saban will be named the next head football coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

While a lot of LSU fans will be pretty irate if it comes to pass, we won’t. It’ll certainly make the SEC West a much tougher place to play, but it’ll be good to see Alabama moving (hopefully) back to prominence. That much, at least, is just good for college football.

As for whether the other particulars surrounding this situation are good for college football, or for Nick Saban, or Alabama, that’s another matter which we rambled at some length about last night in a post we called As the Saban Turns.
