Well dang. Former Catholic High star, (and Texas Longhorn Shoulda-Been-a-Star-but-got-Hosed), Major Applewhite has joined Nick Saban’s coaching staff at Alabama in an undisclosed capacity. We were kinda hoping the kid was coming back home. Best we can tell, this leaves Gary Crowton at the top of LSU’s list, although it’s still entirely possible that Les promotes Todd Monken.
We’d really hate to see that happen, frankly. Not that we have anything against Monken. It’s just that a program of LSU’s stature needs to go big when it goes shopping, if only for perception’s sake. Luring top coaches away from other schools is what elite college football programs tend to do. Not always, mind you, but in general that’s how it’s done. Promoting a virtual unknown into such an important position might send the message that we’re not committed to maintaining the level of excellence we worked so hard to achieve at LSU.

You could also take the view that he’s just doing his job, and doing it better than Les Miles. Both men need to hire offensive coordinators at major SEC programs. Saban went out there and got a good one. Miles didn’t. Or at least, hasn’t.
Maybe it’s really Les Miles who is F’ing LSU in the A?

I’d forgotten that the “Major” in Applewhite was for Major Ogilvie since his Pa is past president of the Bama Lumni Sociation.
I figured LSU might be 3rd on his list behind the (low probability) Rich HC job. Bet Saban names him QB coach.
