Former LSU Coach Mike Archer Named Defensive Coordinator at NC State

January 17th, 2007 | ,

Former LSU Coach Mike ArcherWell Tiger fans, if Bo Pelini bails on us, you can forget about bringing former LSU head coach Mike “The Mustache” Archer back to Baton Rouge to replace him. Alas, the dream is over.

Scout.com is reporting that the hideously hairlipped journeyman assistant, who was most recently defensive coordinator under Rich Brooks for the Kentucky Wildcats, will now be running the defense for the North Carolina State Wolfpack.

Archer was LSU’s defensive coordinator in 1985 and 1986, then head coach for four seasons from 1987 to 1990. In only four years, he managed to completely destroy everything Bill Arnsparger had done to return the LSU football program to national prominence. Archer was canned after the 1990 season, and Curley Hallman was brought in to continue the suck. Archer then held various defensive assistant positions in college and pro football, including two stints at Kentucky.

In accepting the NC State position, Archer will reunite with Tom O’Brien, with whom he worked at Virginia in 1991 and 1992.
