This makes us laugh, in that headshaking, “Jeebis. People suck.” sort of way.
Two sportswriters from two competing major media outlets offer their two wholly uninformed cents about LSU’s prospects for the upcoming 2007 football season. Both manage to need only one sentence to completely botch their analysis of the Tigers quarterback situation, because clearly neither has done his homework on the subject.
- John Walters, writing at NBCSports.com, ranks the LSU vs Virginia Tech game on September 8th as the 2nd biggest game of the upcoming college football season. That should’ve clued us in that he has no clue what he’s talking about, but whatever. Here’s the part that gets us.
“Ryan Perrilloux, 2004’s national prep player of the year, inherits JaMarcus Russell’s quarterback job in Baton Rouge, and for the next two seasons at least Death Valley will be known as a perrillous place to visit.”
Yep, the job’s all sewn up, and Perrilloux’s in like Fl…. errr…something. Does this clown even know Matt Flynn exists, much less that Les Miles said last week that Flynn had the edge right now?
- Not to be outdone, Dennis Dodd (a “senior writer”, no less) penning his pre-season Top 25 for CBSSportsline.com, makes the same blunder but reverses the players. Check this out.
Senior Matt Flynn isn’t the dynamic presence that JaMarcus Russell was but still has a chance to win 10 as the new quarterback.
No mention whatsoever of Ryan Perrilloux. Nice job, Dennis.
And these guys draw paychecks for what they do. Unreal. It’s a new world out there, boys n’ girls. The days of traditional journalists slapping together poorly researched, factually inaccurate articles at the last minute aren’t over. Not by a long shot. But the days of not having anyone call you on it; those are rapidly coming to an end. Welcome to the internet.

Errr…haven’t you heard of ESPNsux? Brainless sports media prigs are teh wave of the new millenium. Everybody’s got one, or two, or three… Catch up, good man.
By virtue of game experience, though, I say Flynn’s our boy. I doubt Perrilloux’s got all the offense memorized just yet. Tehspecially given that there’s no telling how much it’s gonna’ change if Crowton tries to install his Spread-Option PAC 10 Ballroom Dancing Schtick.
