Updated. See the end of this article.
Florida State has rescinded a 3-year offer to LSU Offensive Coordinator Jimbo Fisher.
“Florida State will move forward to pursue other options among a number of outstanding coaches who want to share in FSU’s traditions and values,” Bowden said.
That “values” part is a bit of bitchslap, as if Bowden’s publicly withdrawing the offer wasn’t enough of one.
Seems Jimbo and Sexton went all wishywashy on FSU, despite a verbal agreement allegedly having been in place for a couple of weeks, after the possibilities of going to Alabama or coaching at Georgia Tech arose.
When it’s all said and done, Jimbo could wind up back in Baton Rouge for the 2007 season, something we thought 99.5% impossible just a couple of days ago. If, and this is still a huge and highly unlikely “if”, Jimbo Fisher and Bo Pelini are both still at LSU come September, the college football world better look out, as the Tigers could be poised for a title run.
UPDATE: We’re hearing (read: nothing credible to link to yet) that Alabama is no longer looking at Jimbo Fisher either. Just a rumor at this point, could be BS. We’ll keep our eyes open.

Seems to me if Jimbo really wants a HC position, he’d keep building on the success at LSU until a good one opens up. Why risk stepping laterally to another program?

Agreed. Going to Bama doesn’t put him in a better position to become a HC. It does, however, increase his hours per week by 20 or s0, and subject his fambly to a move. If I were Jimbo Fisher, I’d sit tight at LSU unless I got the HC offer from Georgia Tech.

It’s getting even more interesting. Despite the public brush-off from Florida State, Fisher and the Noles are again negotiating.
I really don’t know what to make of it, other than Fisher’s agent (Jimmy Sexton) overplayed his hand and Bowden called his bluff.
As of 4:30 tonight, FSU Pres TK Wetherell and Sexton are negotiating a deal for Fisher which might be wrapped up and announced tomorrow.
FSU is now also planning to talk to Larry Fedora (Okie State), Kevin Rogers of the Minnesota Vikings and Valdosta State head coach Chris Hatcher if talks don’t produce a contract with Fisher by noon Monday.

There’s no way the FSU Regents or AD could commit in a binding way to Fisher being #1 in BB’s line of suck session, is there? Otherwise, why does Jimbo go to work for BB and then have to bolt for a decent opportunititty when it appears? I just don’t get it.

I agree with you, schmed. They cannot grant him the throne, but they can assure him a seat at the table and an interview.
As of 9:30a today, both sides have reached a tentative agreement and Fisher is scheduled to be introduced this afternoon. No time has been set for a press conference, but the word has gone out from the Athletic Department that a presser will be held this afternoon - for what it’s worth.
